As a lover of Hip Hop inspired by the likes of DJ Jazzy Jeff, Funkmaster Flex, Grandmaster Flash, and many other iconic DJs, DJ Jonezy knew from an early age that he’d be spending the rest of his life behind a set of turntables. “Listening to Hip Hop growing up kicked it all off for me,” says Jonezy of his humble beginnings. “Without the DJ there would be no Hip Hop so I knew straight away I wanted to get behind the decks and play the music I loved. I had a good ear and I wanted to use it to help heighten other peoples’ listening experiences.”

Beginning his DJ journey in his hometown of Plymouth - situated in the south west of England - Jonezy’s brand grew pretty rapidly. Once word spread about his creative mixes, exciting record choices, and extensive music knowledge, he soon travelled the rest of the country doing he loved thanks to the reputation he had carved out.

“It’s great to be able to do what you love and love what you do, whenever and wherever,” he admits. Reaching even bigger audiences far and wide, Jonezy’s talents have also been showcased in Dubai, Los Angeles, Aiya Napa, and Ibiza - where he was a resident DJ for super urban club night TwiceasNice. Not only that, in 2016 he toured Asia, playing in cities such as Beijing and Shanghai.

“I think one of my proudest moments has to be playing in front of 40,000 people as part of the MTV Crashes event in my hometown,” Jonezy admits, referring to the 2015 event held in Plymouth and headlined by superstar DJ Steve Aoki. An architect of sound whose talents have been recognised by some of the best in the business, Jonezy has shared stages with the likes of Snoop Dogg, Rick Ross, Eve, Nas, Pusha T, Common, J. Cole, Tyga, Talib Kweli, Tinie Tempah and Dizzee Rascal, to name but a few. Aside from the aforementioned he has tour DJ'd for various artists including a UK tour with Clement Marfo.

Growing even further, in 2009 Jonezy was tapped up to appear on BBC Radio 1. The reason? To play a 30 minute guest mix for popular radio personality Mistajam. Then going on to put together mixes for the station’s urban music neighbour, BBC Radio 1Xtra, for both CJ Beatz (RnB Mix show) and Charlie Sloth (Hip Hop show), in 2014, after receiving hoards of positive feedback, he was given a monthly residency on 1Xtra’s Club Sloth.

Always one to give back to his community, Jonezy also mentors and inspires the young people of Plymouth through his DJing. Creating and delivering a successful DJ workshop, he combines his youth work experience and DJing in the hope he’ll be able to inspire the next generation of DJs.
